Crew Leader Deliverables & Expectations
You have built a solid foundation of technical skills, personal leadership, communication, teamwork, and safe and productive use of equipment and materials. In this level, you will learn how to support and lead others and continue to improve your technical skills. As you progress through this course, continue to ask lots of questions, get hands on experience and learn from your team. Mastering the items in this level will help you develop your career as you gain the skills and trains of a crew leader. This is what your manager and co-workers will be expecting of you.

Below is a refresher of the Technician deliverables that we will continue to build on.
Crew Leader in Training

Becoming an effective landscape maintenance crew leader requires a combination of leadership skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to manage both people and tasks. Below are the deliverables we will focus on over the next 3 program levels:

  • Obtain Relevant Certifications
    • Some certifications, such as the Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) or Certified Horticulturist (CH), can enhance your credibility as a leader.
    • See your manager for information on the best certifications for you to obtain.
  • Develop Leadership Skills
    • Learn to communicate effectively with crew members, clients, and supervisors.
    • Lead by example, demonstrating strong work ethic, punctuality, and professionalism.
    • Learn conflict resolution and problem-solving skills to handle crew disputes and unexpected issues.
    • Demonstrate honesty, accountability, and ethical behavior in all aspects of your work.
    • Be prepared to handle unexpected challenges and problem-solving, whether it's equipment breakdowns, weather-related issues, or client requests.
    • Be flexible and adaptable to different tasks, environments, and changing priorities.
  • Continue to Understand Safety Regulations
    • Continue to focus on safety protocols, such as proper equipment use, handling chemicals, and emergency procedures.
    • Ensure your crew follows safety regulations to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Time Management and Organization
    • Develop time management skills to create efficient work schedules and meet deadlines.
    • Maintain organized property management process, schedules, and equipment maintenance.
  • Technical Skills
    • Master the use of landscaping tools and equipment, including blowers, edgers, and irrigation systems.
    • Master the art of pruning.
    • Learn to identify landscape plants, their characteristics, and identify common plant pests.
    • Learn turf basics and common turf pests.
  • Customer Service
    • Develop strong interpersonal skills to interact with clients, address their concerns, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Team Building
  • Foster a positive work environment and build a cohesive team by providing training and support to crew members.
  • Encourage teamwork and collaboration among crew members.
